Beyond the Plate upgrade to Kurve POS tech

Beyond The Plate (BTP) bring fantastic food and café culture to over 3 million sq. ft of multi-tenant workplaces across southeast England. BTP’s individually branded cafés provide spaces to refuel, work, connect or relax during the working day. Beyond its cafés, BTP offer additional catering services and special events that bring teams together.

Driving growth with new technology

After the pandemic, BTP’s cafes noticed a significant drop in footfall as workers were slow to return to offices. In the past the company’s cafes might have expected a steady flow of customers five days a week but post-Covid a shift towards hybrid working meant that employees were choosing to come into the office less often. With a reduced sales window, BTP needed to:

“When your potential business hours are squeezed by up to 40%, we knew we had to work harder and more intelligently to grow our revenues. Upgrading our POS, loyalty and stock management was a critical first step.”
Francis Skeat // Operations Director

Upgrading to an integrated POS system

BTP chose to replace its old POS system with a centralised system from Kurve that was fully integrated with a stock management system from Fourth Hospitality and a loyalty solution from Como.

“Our incumbent POS was out of date, expensive and difficult to maintain. We needed a more streamlined EPOS system that would link easily with stock and give us detailed real-time information on metrics like sales, transaction values, time period sales and products by category. The greater the level of detail the better the improvements we can make and the bigger the impact on the bottom line.”

Experiencing great results

Two years on, Beyond The Plate has deployed the integrated Kurve technology across 17 of its sites and has significantly increased its revenues. They have delivered:

“The sophisticated intelligence and data analysis tells us whether something is working or not, whether it’s menu choices, price of supplier goods or what number of staff to put on between certain hours. Kurve has all the features we need and it’s simple to use.”

The future for BTP and Kurve

In the future BTP is considering the use of Kurve’s kiosks for out-of-hours ordering for pre-packaged takeaway food such as fresh sandwiches.
